When other diagnostic tests are unsuccessful in determining the underlying issue of abdominal pain or disfunction, a laparotomy may be the next best option. Laparotomy is a type of exploratory surgery that allows direct examination of the abdomen and affected organs, enabling our doctors to make a proper diagnosis when all other methods of determining the root cause of the problem have proven inconclusive. 

Some of the most common indicators for a laparotomy include:

• Abdominal pain
• Chronic vomiting
• Abdominal masses
• Penetrating abdominal wounds
• Abdominal fluid accumulation
• Urinary bladder disease
• Intestinal diseases
